Excerpts from "What to Put in Your Head Now that the Alcohol is Out"
Serenity
"Teach us to care and not to care.  Teach us to sit still."  T.S. Eliot
We have a whole prayer based on the concept of serenity.  What does the word mean, though? If you 'achieve' serenity, does that mean that othing bothers you? No, that's robotic.  We are human, and we feel, so we can't expect that serenity will mean constant peacefulness.
Instead, then, it must be acceptance.  We recognize that we need to be not unemotional about these things, but to be actually, truly content by accepting that what is, is.  It's a challenge., but we are getting better at it, 24 hours at a time.

"Finish each day and be done with it.  You have done what you could.  Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.  Tomorrow is a new day.  You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."   Ralph Waldo Emerson
"If I die I forgive you; if I live, we'll see."   Spanish proverb
